I’m not really sure how I got here…to this point. Shelly called and asked if I wanted to enter to the St. George marathon. It’s a lottery and if you enter as a group you have a better chance at getting in. I said, “Sure”, thinking to myself we’ll never get picked. We were picked. Oops. Called my bluff.
I have always wanted to run a marathon but now was not the time. I have little kids, it’s in the middle of the football season, and my life’s too busy right now to train for a marathon. But I’m doing it. I hope I finish. They shut down the race after 6 hours so if I make it before that I will be happy. I’m definitely not fast but I’m steady. A couple of things I’m worried about: the elevation change, the Runner’s Runs (really you don’t want me to go into detail about that), and a hamstring that’s been bothering me. Oh and chaffing thighs. There’s not enough Body Glide in the world apparently for my thighs. Even if I was 80 pound my thighs would still rub together. It’s my lot in life.
I’ve always wondered how people don’t finish and thought why they can’t just shuffle their way to the end. But then I ran twenty miles and my foot felt like it was breaking. So I can see how you can’t always foresee the future and what may or may not happen to your body.
Shelly and Scott will be doing it with me so they can greet me at the finish line. :) Scott is trying to qualify for the Boston marathon so he’s super fast.
So wish me luck. I’m going to need it.

Good Luck Christy! I actually almost called you today because I thought it was coming up and wanted to tell you that in person. Curse blogging and texting, it makes it so easy not to pick up the phone! But I will be thinking about you, you are amazing!
