My Internet has been out. I have felt completely disconnected from the world.
So our power went out the other night and as we sat there in the candlelight and looked out our window at the darkness I said to John, "What if this is it?"
By "it" I meant what we have been warned about by the prophets...what we need our food storage for. Of course my question was totally hypothetical but in the same breath a huge REALITY CHECK. Maybe it stemmed from a conversation I had with Heidi earlier that day that if we could not go to the store right now would we be prepared? I thought I was prepared...but in reality there are a lot of things I would still need. What would we be lacking? Would Brock have enough diapers? Would we have enough water? How many times do we have to be told that stormy weather is ahead and to get our houses in order?
It seems lately with the economy and the tumultuous presidential election that the "sky is falling". Before you dub me Chicken Little know that I realize this time of unrest may not in fact be "it". I don't believe that we should live in fear but I don't think we should live in denial either. Ignorance is not an excuse. What I do know is how true it is that if we are prepared spiritually and temporally we shall not fear.
If you have time to watch this video it is great to see what the prophets have been telling us.

What if this is it?

I'm SO glad you shared these thoughts and concerns. seeeeriously, it's been consuming my mind FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER lately. Do I have year supplies? Yes. But enough?? I DON'T KNOW!!??! Just recently got a 55 gallon tub of water to hang out in my garage...I'm thrilled about that new addition. But SERIOUSLY, even doing the small little things to stock up on our 3 month supply that we should ALWAYS have on hand in our pantry-THIS I am horrible at b/c we have a smaller pantry. But just by buying a few extra boxes of muffin mix here and there- or cans of spaghetti, mac n' cheese, etc...most of us have our wheat, rice, and those obvious necessities. But we can add to our supply every single time we go grocery shopping little by little. Thanks for the thoughts and advice- GREAT GREAT GREAT. WE ALL NEED THIS!! "IT" is COMING TOO SOON!
It seems like everyone has this on the mind lately. I think it is good, like you said a totally reality check. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, this is what blogging is all about!
This too is weighing on my shoulders. I am not prepared at all. I really need to get on it or my babies will go hungry. Isn't it funny how hard it is to "stock up" on necessities, but how easy it is to buy "stuff" or go on vacation, ect... thanks for this post it just helps me to see that we are all in the same frame of mind and how important this really is.
Can I please live in denial for just a little longer?!? :)
Tell me about it...I got my wake up call a month ago with the power outage. Stuff like that definitely makes you think...which I think it's a good thing to have mini-emergencies which allow you to re-evaluate and to better prepare.
Hey! I know, I saw this video last week and it scared me even MORE! I am totally neurotic when it comes to WANTING to be prepared. I am in no way, shape, or form there, but am trying to get there. There are a few links on my blog to some preparedness websites. Some of them are really informative and really can help.
Anyways, Jenny Flake is a friend I went to hygiene school with. I had not idea until recently that the picky palate was her website! She is featured on the Food Network quite a bit, I guess cooking is just a tallent she discovered recently.
Christy - it's true we need to be ready - the world is a scary place right now! In CA we are fighting the same sex marriage vote that will be voted on in November. It will be so bad if Prop 8 doesn't pass! What is going on!?!? On a happier note - so glad you liked the chicken and rice recipe! It's one of my favorites! If I come across any others that I think are blog worthy I will send them to you to try!
No, I'm so glad someone else has been thinking the same thing! I went to Costco and literally stocked up on a bunch of stuff! With this whole election and everything that's been going on, I really think we need this reality check. I will for sure watch this video :) Thanks Christy!
After conference when they kept saying "don't be afraid" I am wondering what is coming!!!
Thanks for this. It's nice to see I'm not the only one in a panic. Things feel so different right now-something impending is in the air.
